Cheryl Barker and Peter Coleman-Wright
The soprano Cheryl Barker and the baritone Peter Coleman-Wright were based in London when they chose to come home to Australia with their son Gabriel in 2005. During their glittering international careers, they had often sung in the Opera House and were sure of more engagements, but they did need advice on where to live in Sydney. A colleague suggested Pyrmont, “an up and coming area” within easy reach of the City and the Opera House. They flew in, found an estate agent and inspected a townhouse that had come on the market that morning. They made an offer, it was accepted, and they have never regretted it. Their careers continue, and their son Gabriel attended an outstanding school: he sat the HSC in 2017.
“We love living in Pyrmont and have made some great friends. We have seen many changes and developments over the years but although it is now densely populated, we never feel it is too crowded and it has a lovely village feel. We feel very privileged to be living in this wonderful area, so close to the city and harbour, with great cafes, restaurants and transport facilities.”
