Jane Ann Cooper Bennett
Jane Ann Cooper Bennett was born in Manly in 1960 and brought up by her mother and grandparents. In 1982 she attained a Diploma of Fine Arts, and a Graduate Diploma a year later. She has taken full advantage of rare access to buildings under construction or about to be demolished, creating narratives of decay, destruction and reconstruction. She can sometimes be seen at her easel, but more often she is perched high above the streets and buildings. She is renowned for industrial and maritime cityscapes, including Anzac Bridge, Pyrmont Power Station and CSR Refinery. Her paintings and her advocacy have changed the way in which many people see and understand these urban landscapes.
She has received many accolades and over 120 art prizes, and many of her paintings have been bought and enjoyed by Sydney residents and institutions.
