Refinery Square

Refinery Square, on Bowman Street, was planned to be the heart of the Jacksons Landing precinct, with many allusions to the industrial history of the CSR site. Throughout the square, recycled sandstone was pick-finished to represent the manual labour of quarrymen. CSR operations are evoked in quotations etched into metal and adorning glass and steel blades.

A large fig tree had to be replaced: the replacement fig was transported from the corner of Bank and Bowman Streets and replanted here, preserving the configuration of the square. North of the square, a new stairway was cut into the escarpment, displaying raw sandstone.
