Les McMahon
James Leslie “Les” McMahon was born in Sydney in 1930 and trained as a plumber and gasfitter. He became an organizer of the Plumbers’ and Gasfitters’ Union.
He was elected to the City Council in 1967 and 1971, and represented Sydney in the federal parliament from 1975 (when he succeeded Jim Cope) until he retired in 1983 (and was succeeded by Peter Baldwin). He died in 2015.
