Fig Lane Park
Fig Lane Park is bounded by Upper Fig Street, Jones Street, Fig Lane, and Bulwarra Road, Ultimo. It is on land that was part of the Ultimo Estate. In 1879-1880 development began with the construction of two-storey terrace houses. Those fronting Jones Street were demolished in 1919 to make way for a wool store. The Upper Fig Street terraces survived until the 1970s.
The centrepiece of Fig Lane Park is a Port Jackson Fig planted in 1996/97, but the most remarkable features are sculptures. These include a bulbous water feature made from sandstone previously the base of a column on Pyrmont Bridge. The sculpture draws inspiration from Tinkers Well which provided high quality water. Three āLā shaped pieces of stone act as seats around the sculpture.
Outcrop Esculentus Spiralis features 12 pieces of sandstone. Engraved in each is a botanical drawing of a plant which has been eaten over the past 200 years.
