Ada Place Playground

Ada Place Playground was part of the Ultimo Estate, owned by the Harris family: Ada was a great-niece of Surgeon John Harris. Ada Street was developed in 1878 and the houses there were some of 127 bought in 1894 by Thomas Buckland, nephew of the chairman of the Colonial Sugar Refinery.

The houses were demolished in 1942 and the site lay vacant until 1963 when the City Council acquired it for a playground, which was opened in 1967.
